Reef tips

  • Wear your swimmers underneath and pack a towel, hat, sunglasses and a light layer for the boat.
  • Take seasickness tablets before you leave, not once you feel unwell, and stay on deck where you can see the horizon.
  • From roughly November to May, full-body stinger suits are standard on reef trips.
  • Don't judge the reef by the view from your hotel. Operators decide on conditions out at the reef.
  • You don't need a car to do the reef from Cairns.
